As someone who's been lovingly wearing and cherishing her Marc Jacobs mouse shoes (shown below), I literally want to have a baby girl right now so I can put these on her!!!!

And these most definitely tie perfectly into my recent Animal Farm post. I'm obsessed!

Bouffe pour Pensées.

Lire des classiques c'est bien beau. Du Nabokov, du Sartre, lire The Road de Kerouac dans l'avion et La jeune fille a la perle au bord de la piscine, c'est oh so chic.

Aller a la cinémathèque, le dimanche, voir des projections des films de la Nouvelle Vague c'est bien. Avoir vu tous les Godard, les Kubrick et les Chabrol, c'est bien aussi. Maitriser Charlie Chaplin, les films muets, les Hitchcock, ah ça, c'est pratique pour les diners.

Ecouter en boucle du Françoise Hardy, du Boris Vian, et "forever young" et "big in japan", c'est mélodieux et tentant, et presque romanesque.

Replonger dans les albums photos de ses grands-parents et visionner les cassettes de nos enfances sur nos écrans plasma, c'est mignon, c'est chou.

Re-essayer sa robe de mariée, 20 ans plus tard, c'est cheesy et kitch, mais tellement bon.

Mais ne pas se renouveler c'est moche et c'est dommage.

Sur les podiums, c'est toujours la même chose. Des cycles de, allez, soyons gentils, 4 ans.

Combien de fois le leopard a-t-elle été LA tendance?

et la couleur rouge LA couleur de l'hiver?

et les mocassins? le duffle coat? les couleurs pastels? les carreaux et les pois?

On pique les tendances des '50s, des '60s, des '70s, des '80s, des '90s. Puis, rien.

Ils feront quoi en 2050, ils s'habilleront comment? techniquement, comme leurs ancêtres non?

Réinventons nous!

On critique les Gaga de ce monde, la folie McQueen, l'extravagance Galliano, la modernité de Balmain, pourtant il faut, il faut !

Ok, y a eu un moment, ou les tailleurs YSL pour femmes étaient ré-vo-lu-tio-nnaires. Une femme de couleur sur un podium c'était fou. Mais il y a 20 ans, un téléphone c'était bizarre aussi. Les temps changent!

Il n'y a pas que Coco Chanel a l'elegance, et Missoni pour les petites robes noires! Il faut se creuser la tête, chercher plus loin. Se réinventer. Quitte a avoir l'air de fous. Nos arrieres-grands parents peuvent se retourner dans leurs tombes, c'est pas la fin du monde (en plus ca rime). Oui, c'est trop cool le vintage mais faut pas pousser. C'est pas le concours de la personne qui peut avoir l'air le moins dans son temps! S'acheter des platines vinyles quand on a le iPhone 4 dans la poche de son JBrand c'est ridicule. Avouez le, vous ne supportez pas quand vos grands-parents débarquent sur Facebook et s'achètent un MacBook Pro avec Skype qui s'ouvre avec la session, et bien ça vaut la même chose pour nous. En mai 68, on n'était rien, rien que de la poussière.

Le défile en 2009 sur le thème du réchauffement climatique avec son décor, ses icebergs et ses tenues (de yéti), ca au moins, ça s'ancrait en 2009. C'était du nous, du pur nous, quitte a être bizarre et fou. Les bouches XXL de McQueen c'est too much, c'est pas classe, mais c'est nous. Ne cherchons plus a porter ces robes fifties couleurs pastels aux décolletés en balconnet et qui descendent jusqu'au genoux. Ne faisons plus semblant, ne nous déguisons pas.

C'est beau de lire des classiques, mais ouvrons le journal pour se pencher vers l'actualité au lieu de se complaire dans les pensées et les rancoeurs d'Emma Bovary.

Arrêtons de jouer les hippies, de se la jouer flower power. Arrêtons de se prendre pour des snobs dans The Great Gatsby.

Ne vivons pas nostalgiques et ringards, dans les albums photos de nos maisons de famille, au son de vieux "tubes", VIVONS nos propres vies, a notre époque, et creeons.

Moi, j'en ai marre d'entendre ma mère dire au volant que nous les jeunes on a rien inventes... a part la tektonik.

Reading literary classics is lovely. Nabokov, Sartre, Kerouac's "The Road" on a long flight, and "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" by the pool... it's very chic.

Going to the media library, on Sunday afternoons, or seeing New Wave screenings is great too, as is being able to quote Godard, Kubrick and Chabrol. Knowing Chaplin and Hitchock like the back of your hand also happens to come in real handy at dinner parties.

Listening to Francoise Hardy on repeat, re-reading Boris Vian, knowing Alphaville's "forever young" and "big in japan" by heart is tempting, and very romanesque.

Flipping through photo albums from our grandparents' youth, and re-watching old crackly VCRs of our childhood on plasma screens is heart-warming.

Trying on your wedding dress 20 year after the big day is cheesy and kitschy, but unless you gained 100 lbs, it feels so good.

But being unable to renew ourselves is ugly...and a shame.

On runways, it's always the same things. Cycles of 4 years at a time, perhaps, but always the same cycles. How many times has leopard-print been THE trend of the season? How many times have designers told us to defy expectations and wear red in winter because it was THE color? What about loafers? and duffle coats? and pastel colors? stripes, polka dots, plaid...?

We seek inspiration in the trends of the '50s, the '60s, the '70s and '80s... then what?

What is everyone going to be wearing in 2050? Probably exactly like us today, right?

WE MUST REINVENT OURSELVES!

The Gagas of the world are criticized, McQueen makes people nervous, Galliano offends, Balmain is considered bizarre. But we NEED modernity and renewal. More, more, more!

Ok so there was a time when women's suits as created by YSL were absolutely revolutionary. A woman of color on a runway was unheard of. But 20 years ago, a phone, too, was bizarre. Times are changing! (And we must change with them...)

Coco Chanel was not the only elegant woman, and Missoni could make little black dresses! Let's create, invent, reinvent. And who cares if we seem crazy! Our great-grandparents will probably be disapproving from far beyond their graves, but so what. Vintage is cool, but one day...vintage will run out. Let's stop competing in some game in which whoever looks most removed from the 21st century wins. Collecting vinyl records when we keep our iPhone 4 stashed in the back pocket of our brand new JBrand pair of jeans is ridiculous, and slightly contradictory.

C'mon, 'fess up! You hate that your grandparents (and even your parents!) are signing up on Facebook, buying Macbook Pros, and using Skype. They probably feel the same way about us! We refer to the year 1968 as if we knew what it was all about. And it probably infuriates them that we know nothing.

In 2009, a runway show focused entirely on global warming, with appropriate decor, yeti-looking pieces...and even icebergs. For once, the whole show was profoundly relevant. It was absolutely set in the present, even though it seemed like a bizarre choice for a fashion show. McQueen's "hoof" shoes may be "too much", excessive, borderline obscene...but they represent exactly what our society is built on. Let's stop trying to act like fifties' dresses in pastel colors and knee-length lacy detailing are okay. Let's not pretend, and let's stop playing dress-up.

Reading literary classics...it's great. But let's also try to open up a newspaper and become aware of what's going on in the present, instead of dwelling on the antiquated bitter tirades of Emma Bovary. Let's stop playing hippie and flower power. Let's stop acting like we're someone out of the Great Gatsby.

Let's not live nostalic and outdated, knee-deep in old wrinkled photographs and squeaky family homes. Let's live our own time period, our own trends and our own lives. Let's CREATE!

I, for one, can't bear to listen to my mother telling me, as she sits behind the wheel, that we, the new generation, have invented nothing...except for tektonik.

Gaga Goes Grey

Vanity Fair has unveiled its September cover...and I have lots of mixed feelings.

The first being: Gaga. Enough, enough, enough of the Gaga.

Secondly, the eyes. Did she show up to this shoot entirely coked out?

On the plus side though, I'm liking the monochromatic, nude theme, the lack of mesh, of black, of leather, of 12-inch heels... It's refreshing to see the lady looking fresher than we are used to. Shot by Nick Knight, I'm liking the idea of this different Gagaloo.

Vous allez me dire qu'ils sont similaires au "Ceci est un It Bag" de Longchamp en 2009, mais non ! Plus légers, plus petits, plus gais et colores, ce sont eux les It Bags, les vrais !

Anya Hindmarch is typical British minimalist class. Always refined, with an exciting touch of extravagant detailing. If you're looking for a perfect beach bag (hey! summer isn't over yet, Jewel & I are going to the beach in 2 weeks!), please please please ignore the instinct that tells you to just use the one your hotel makes available upon arrival, and refrain from using your Eres PVC pochette, no matter how cool that was 3 summers ago. Instead, run to Anya's and fall in love with these adorable canvas bags! They may look similar to Longchamp's 2009 "This is an it bag" bags, but no! Lighter, smaller, more FUN...these are the REAL it beach bags!

Je pourrais vous réciter les Ins & Outs de la saison, recracher ce que les magazines de modes ont déjà dit et redit depuis quelques semaines. Mais, a la place, je vais raccourcir la liste a ce que j'aime, ce que j'aimerai voir porter dans les rues, et a ce que j'envisage moi-meme porter. Parce que les robes neo-fifties et les robes trapèzes en leopard c'est bien beau....sur les podiums.

I could recite the ins & the outs of the upcoming season, rehash what the magazines have already told you. Instead, I'll shorten the list to include only my favorites, what I want to see on the streets come the fall, and what I intend to get my hands on. Post-fifties dresses and a-line leopard-print dresses may be fun...on the runways. Below, what I actually plan on wearing.

- Un Bombardier Seconde Peau

Si le Bombardier Maje en peau retournée (1100 euros) est l'objet du désir du Jalouse ce mois-ci, page 26, c'est pour une raison. Classe et style, il nourrit une tenue, et son nom l'indique, c'est une réelle seconde peau, toute douce et qui tient chaud. Le bombardier, au col vertigineux chez Burberry Prorsum est top !

-A Second-Skin Bomber Jacket

Maje's inside-out-skin bomber jacket is THE object of everyone's lusting after Jalouse made it a highlight in its current issue. Classic, stylish, it essentially makes an outfit all on its own, and as indicated by its name, actually is that soft. AND it's warm, too! But it's also 1,100 euros...oh well. The affordable option will find its way to me somehow!

- Jeans a revers

Pas besoin de faire claquer la CB. Simplement retrousser son jean cette saison peut faire de vous une petite fashionista. Avec des ballerines, des boots, des talons, ça fait très Isabel Marrant, même avec un vieux jean Gap.

-Roll-Up Jeans

No need to max out your credit card for this one. Just roll up your favorite pair of jeans. Flats, mid-calf biker boots, heels... it's all right on point, even if you're just wearing your old Gap.

- Minijupes

Ressortez vos mini-jupes ! Vous savez, celles trop courtes pour porter a vos entretiens, celles que votre père interdisaient et qui criaient BIMBO en lettres majuscules. Une mini-jupe ne doit pas forcement venir avec tout ce que ça implique, ça peut être très classe avec des ballerines, une chemise a carreaux rentrée dedans, une ceinture fine, une chemise blanche, des cavalières. Il faut accessoiriser, sortir les foulards et les sautoirs et laissez les tallons aiguilles de cote pour une fois. En rouge, blanc, taupe, gris perle, chocolat,... craquez pour une mini-jupe!

-Miniskirts

Bring out the miniskirts! You know, the ones you can't wear to interviews, the ones that your dad kind of hates, the ones that used to scream bimbo. A miniskirt, this season, will look just right with the perfect pair of girlie flats (don't go high on the heels if you're going short on the hemline!), a plaid or boyfriend-style shirt, a thin belt, a pair of knee-high riding boots... Possibilities are endless, and accessorizing will be key: a scarf, a bunch of long chunky necklaces... Our favorites are taupe, grey, or chocolate brown. So go find that miniskirt you've had since middle school and start building around it!

- Bagues a deux doigts

Comment nourrir une tenue et la rendre unique, avec ces petites (ou grandes) bagues a 2 doigts qui apportent une touche originale a votre allure. On en trouve désormais beaucoup, chez Urban Outfitters ou dans les rues de SoHo, downtown New York.

-Two-finger rings

How to make your look that much more unique: add a chunky two-finger ring. They're everywhere anyway, so you have no excuse. Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 has some of our favorites, and for under $20.

- Les Cavalières

les boots, j'adore, je suis très attachée a ma collection de motardes. Pourtant, cette année, on ressort les cavalières (non ce ne sont pas des chaussures pour faire du cheval). En chocolat, en gris perle ou bleu marine. Pas de vernis!

-Riding boots

I happen to be completely in love with my collection of biker mid-calf boots. But this year, riding boots are back. And no, I won't actually be riding any horses with them. Chocolate brown, pearl-grey or navy... no patent leather!

- Le Tweed

Le Tweed j'adore, j'adore. Le top du top ce serait un Duffle Coat, très en vogue cette saison, en tweed. Ou sinon misez sur des accessoires, comme des broches, des barrettes, des pulls en tweed. Mignon et chic.

-Tweed

I love, love, love tweed. My absolute favorite would be an old-school duffle coat, very in this fall. But accessories, and small touches, work too: brooches, hair clips, fine cardigans... Classy, and oh-so-chic.

- Les Marinières

Ces tunisiens, pulls, robes et jupes a rayures ne doivent pas seulement sortir de nos placards entre Juin et septembre. Une marinière au creux de l'hiver c'est super! Ca rafraichit une tenue, et ça peut donner un effet superbe avec des collants, un gros pull, un duffle coat et des couleurs froides.

-Sailor-inspired tops

These striped tshirts, dresses, cardigans, etc... don't necessarily have to hibernate between August and June. A sailor-inspired top in the middle of winter looks fab! It successfully refreshes a look, and looks great with tights, a thick sweater or duffle coat, and cool winter colors.

- le Liberty

Pareil, le liberty en hiver ça peut être très nouveau et très joli! Un foulard, un bracelet, une broche, une pochette..

-Liberty patterns

Same for liberty patterns: in winter, they look quirky and bring color to an otherwise potentially dull outfit. A silk scarf, a bracelet or a brooch... my favorite? a small clutch.

- Le style Army

Il persiste! Depuis quelques saisons déjà, il rode sur les podiums et dans les magasins parisiens (on l'a beaucoup vu chez Sandro et Maje) et au fond, ça marche très bien. Pour les blondes, le kaki c'est top ! Et les coupes masculines a la Isabel Marrant font de jolies formes, tailles et épaules. Le cargo avec ses poches sur le long des jambes flatte, et c'est une bonne alternative aux cigarette jeans que l'on voit désormais trop. Une fois de plus, misez sur les accessoires pour ne pas tomber dans le cliche de la veste militaire. On l'a trop vue!

-Army look

This trend seems to be persisting. Several seasons ago, it was spotted on most runways, and in almost every Parisian boutique (Sandro and Maje, we're looking at you!) - bottom line though: the army look sells. And it looks fab, too. The masculine-inspired cuts are flattering and feminine, especially at the shoulders and waist. Cargo pants with slim pockets down the sides make legs look slimmer (we LOVE the JBrand!) and are a good alternative to the skinny jeans we are now officially bored of. Again, work the accessories! Don't follow everyone else and get yourself the military jacket. Try to think outside the box.

Lingerie de star!

Coup de Foudre de la semaine en matière de Lingerie :

La collection SWING by Princesse Tam-Tam.

Sexy, féminine et fraiche, en dentelle jacquard, elle commence a pointer son nez a Paris, et elle se trouve déjà en exclusivité a Selfridges a Londres, en noir et bleu velvet (un "vert St Germain" est prévu bientôt).

Ok, les étoiles, c'etait presque devenu cliche, on en avait beaucoup trop vu en 2009, mais la, je ne peux pas m'empecher, j'y ai succombe, ils sont tops. La collection SWING envoie vraiment valser !

Super crush of the week: Princesse Tam-Tam (the girlie lingerie brand loved by all Parisians!) and its new SWING collection. Sexy, feminine and fresh, with its girlie lace detailing, it has already started spreading like wildfire around Paris, and is exclusively sold at Selfridges in London. Available in black and "velvet blue", a "St Germain green" is also coming soon. I thought stars had become cliche, they were spotted on just about everything in 2009. But this time, I simply cannot resist, I've given in.

Fall Cut-Outs

As I was browsing through upcoming fall collections, it looks to me like cut-outs are everywhere. While I tend to stay away from anything that looks like it's been through more than some loving wear-and-tear, I do love the unexpected combination of rock-chic and gloriously feminine of some of these accessories. Below, a few of my favorites.

Je feuilletais recemment les pages de mes magazines preferes pour decouvrir les collections de l'automne, et il me semble voir du decoupage partout. Alors non, pas du decoupage de grande maternelle, mais presque. Enfantin, mais si delicat qu'il est aussi elegant, et si feminin! J'ai l'habitude d'eviter les looks dechires, qui semblent avoir depasse depuis longtemps leur date d'expiration, mais cette annee j'adore la combinaison inattendue de ce look rock et chic, et girlie a la fois. Voici quelques-uns de mes coups de foudre!
